Accessibility Statement

Hurst Electric & Plumbing wants every neighbor — including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, voice control, or reduced-motion settings — to be able to find a service, read a guide, and request an appointment on this website without help. This statement explains the standard we build to, how we check our work, and how to tell us when something falls short.

Our conformance target

We design and build this site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA , published by the W3C, and to the accessibility expectations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as applied to websites. WCAG 2.2 AA is the standard we test against; where we know we do not yet meet it, we say so below rather than claim full conformance.

What we do to meet it

• Structure: one descriptive heading (H1) per page, a logical heading order, landmark regions (header, navigation, main, footer), a "skip to main content" link as the first focusable element, and the page language declared for assistive technology.
• Keyboard: every menu, dropdown, form, and button works without a mouse. Dropdowns open on click or hover, close on Escape, and announce their state with aria-expanded. The mobile menu traps focus while open and returns it when closed. Focus is always visible.
• Color and contrast: text and controls are checked numerically against the 4.5:1 (normal text) and 3:1 (large text and UI components) ratios. Meaning is never carried by color alone.
• Images and media: informative images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology. Social-sharing images include text alternatives.
• Motion: scroll and hover animations — including the "x-ray" effect on our home page — are disabled automatically when your device requests reduced motion. Nothing flashes, and no content requires an animation to be read or used.
• Forms: every field has a visible label and, where relevant, autocomplete hints; required fields and errors are announced in text, not only by color.
• Touch and layout: the site is checked at phone, tablet, and desktop widths without horizontal scrolling; primary buttons meet minimum touch-target size.
• Testing: before the site launches, and again whenever its templates change, we run automated accessibility audits (Google Lighthouse) on the production build and a keyboard-only walkthrough of the navigation, forms, and menus. Results are kept with the site's launch records.

Known limitations

We are honest about what is not perfect yet:

• Some documents or images supplied by third parties (for example manufacturer literature or older project photos) may not yet have complete text alternatives. Tell us which one and we will describe it for you or replace it.
• The live-chat widget and payment or financing portals are provided by outside vendors. We choose vendors that publish accessibility commitments, but we cannot fully control their interfaces. Every task they support can also be completed by phone or through our contact form.
• Interactive graphics on the home page are enhancements only; the same information is available as plain text on the page.
